ISLAMABAD: The Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) administration on Saturday broke long pause and finally shown doors to its two officials found guilty in molesting female students in the campus. On Saturday, after a five hours long meeting to reach the syndicate decision officially announced, QAU administration fired two guilty officials controller examinations Sardar Muhammad Babar Khan and Information Technology Department (ITD) lecturer Noor Mustafa Awan, who according to probe committee constituted by QAU VC were found guilty in separate harassment incidents. According to final decision under the lights of syndicate members, the administration of QAU had shown the doors to Khan by putting him on forced retirement while Awan has been terminated with immediate effect. According to sources, Babar was nearing retirement at the end of this year but the syndicate members after found him guilty penalized him by forced retirement. Similarly, the lecturer has also been terminated. Sources told Daily Times, Khan in the reply of charge sheet against him stated that he was in that profession for the last 25 years and there was not such a single complaint against him. He said all allegations put on him were fabricated as the administration of QAU wanted to remove him from this post and to appoint its favorite persons.In the reply of charge sheet Awan stated that he respected his professional teaching career and some elements involved him in that case of harassment. In the meeting held last month, the inquiry committee was apprised that Khan was involved in first incident of molestation of a female student on June 17, was not of fair character as number of such complaints went un-noticed against him from female students. The committee members further said that in 2009, Khan was allegedly involved in sexual harassment of a female student but that was successfully pushed under the rug internally. In other similar incident involving Awan with a female student of ITD on July 8, the inquiry committee members said that Awan’s flawless character was tarnished on the day as they found that he committed the assault.
Besides, on August 10, 2011 Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman dismissed the QAU examination controller’s plea. Making the QAU Syndicate, VC Dr Masoom Yasinzai and Chairman Professor Dr Saqib Ali as respondents, Babar had filed a writ petition before the court challenging the show cause notice of August 4, issued to him by the university syndicate. The petitioner maintained that he had worked as examination controller at the university for the last six years and had a good reputation. On June 17, 2011, female student of second semester MSc at the university accused Babar of sexual harassment.
